About Run for RMC

Run for RMC was created to honor the life and legacy of  Antonio "Tactical Tone" Ortiz and to raise awareness of renal medullary carcinoma (RMC), a rare and aggressive kidney cancer that primarily affects young individuals.

​​​

Through this event, we bring people together in support, remembrance, awareness, and action.

Format:  5K Trail Run/Walk & 1-Mile Accessible Route

Course Options

Run for RMC is designed to welcome runners, walkers, families, and community members of all ages and abilities.  Participants will be able to choose between two course options:

​

  • 5K Trail Run/Walk - a scenic route through the beautiful trails of Stanley Park.  This course is designed for runners and walkers who want to experience the park's natural terrain.

  • 1-Mile Accessible Route  - an additional 1-mile route designed to be accessible and welcoming to everyone, including families with strollers, young children, and participants who prefer a shorter distance.​

​

Why Awareness Matters​​

​

​RMC is a rare and aggressive cancer that often affects adolescents and young adults and is closely associated with sickle cell trait.  Greater awareness can help families, communities, and the public better understand this disease and the urgent need for support and research.
